Covid-19 Cleaning Protocols for Vacation Rentals Explained


Since late February, early March, every city and town in the US has been impacted by COVID-19 in one way or another. For most of us, staying safe and healthy is our top priority. So, how do we go about protecting our guests during this pandemic from a cleaning standpoint?


How to protect your guests during the pandemic

For those of you who own vacation rental properties, keeping a clean room, house, or apartment, is extremely crucial for guests who are considering staying at your property. The CDC has come up with a set of guidelines on how to protect your cleaners, guests, and give you some peace of mind, without impacting your bookings.


  1. Masks and protective materials

*Latex gloves and disposable surgical masks can be found at all supermarkets/pharmacies. Make sure to dispose  

after each use.


  1. Use CDC approved disinfectants that kill the virus.

Ex. Top brands include: Scrubbing bubbles, Clorox, Arm & Hammer, Fantastik, Lysol, Purell disinfectant wipes – which can be found at your local stores (Target, Walmart


  1. Use soap/water for kitchen, bathroom surfaces.

*Normal routine cleaning with soap and water will decrease how much of the virus is on surfaces and objects, which reduces the risk of exposure.


  1. Clean/disinfect high-touch surface areas:

 (High traffic areas include: tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, phones, tablets, touch screens, remote controls, keyboards, handles, desks, toilets, sinks) **These are worth making a part of your cleaning checklist)


  1. Air out property (open doors and windows) while cleaning

*This helps to improves ventilation


  1. Leave vacation rentals vacant 24-48 hours between guests

*This is a safety measure allowing the property to sit for a while in order to eliminate any and all viruses.
